        Volunteer Coordinator

        Is this you? - We are looking for someone to champion our Ambassador Programme, finding new ways to reach blind and partially sighted people with the resources and services we offer. You would oversee the onboarding process for all volunteers and manage all volunteer processes, communications and recognition.

        About the role

        What’s involved? – Recruiting, onboarding, training and assigning tasks to volunteers, as well as researching new avenues of outreach or publicity.

        What’s required? – To be a practising Christian with great organisational, interpersonal and communication skills.

        What’s the commitment? – Sixteen hours per week.

        Role requirements

        Torch is an overtly Christian organisation. This is a role with an occupational requirement of being a practising Christian. 

        Main Duties and responsibilities:

        1. Developing the Ambassador Programme 

        • Promote the volunteer roles and recruit Ambassadors
        • Onboard leaders of Torch Fellowship Groups as Ambassadors
        • Coordinate design and implementation of training; monitor feedback
        • Actively seek outreach opportunities, such as care homes, for Torch Ambassadors to promote Torch services and reach new clients; attend in person as required
        • Be the line manager to the Torch Ambassador volunteers
        • Work closely with the Church Partnership Coordinator to assign Ambassadors to events such as church speaking engagements and exhibitions

        2. Volunteer Processes

        • Create or update role descriptions
        • Update volunteer records, including onboarding checklists, status of training and DBS checks; log updates on the intranet (CRM system); update Volunteer Handbook and Volunteer pages on website
        • Implement system for annual renewal of Volunteer Partnership Agreements 
        • Gather volunteer stories for newsletters and other Torch communications
        • Prepare reports for leadership as needed
        • Assist line managers in onboarding volunteers in their departments
        • Enhance volunteer engagement through communication and recognition: prepare update emails and oversee the Room to Reward scheme
        • Manage the dedicated email account, volunteers@torchtrust.org

        Other duties:

        • Contribute to the fellowship life of Torch, getting involved in regular prayer meetings and periodic coffee mornings and staff days.
        • Assist in the promotion of Torch, such as through exhibitions and conferences, as agreed by the line manager
        • Participate in at least one annual in person event with Torch clients, such as Torch Together Holidays, Coffee Mornings or Fellowship Group meetings
        • Undertake other duties, as the CEO may from time to time determine, in keeping with the overall aim of this area of ministry.

        Person Specification:

        • Able to take initiative and excited by the opportunity to help make Torch known to those who could most benefit from our services
        • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills demonstrating the ability to work collaboratively with both volunteers and a range of other stakeholders 
        • Excellent organisational abilities – able to prioritise and plan ahead
        • Proactive approach to work, showing commitment, drive, a can-do attitude and enthusiastic approach. 
        • Able to work independently but also collaboratively, submitting ideas to leadership and having a team attitude 
        • Familiarity with MS Office, Google and various business software. Willing to learn to use new computer systems.
        • Demonstrate wholehearted commitment to Torch’s values and have evidence of an active and committed Christian faith.
        • Desired: Experience of line managing staff or volunteers.

        Contract and Work Pattern

        This is a permanent contract for 16 hours per week. There may be occasional varied working patterns to include evening and weekend work to cover events.
