        A warm Torch welcome to…

        PUBLISHED - 12th October 2026

We’re very excited to have some new starters joining the Torch team – both of whom will have begun work by the time this issue reaches our lovely readers so please join us in saying a friendly hello to Dan and Joy.

First up, Dan Stirling will be joining us on the 17th of August as our new Audio Transcription Coordinator. Dan previously worked as a music producer. Dan says: ‘I’m passionate about sharing the life-giving message of Christ and edifying the church in creative ways. When I heard about Torch Trust, I was thrilled to Dan Stirling discover the work being done to make sure that blind and partially-sighted people could have the same access to Christian resources as everyone else. I’m very excited to use my skills and experience to facilitate and oversee the audio resources that Torch produces.

I’ve been married to my wife Georgina for 13 years and we have two children. We’re also very involved in church and will be part of a team planting into Bury in Greater Manchester in September. In my spare time I’m learning the Korean language and cooking lots of Korean food. I hope to travel there some time soon.

We’re also thrilled to welcome Joy Aldred who will be joining us on the 1st of September as our new Volunteer Coordinator.

Most recently, Joy has been serving as a Kids Worker at her church in Southport, where coordinating and supporting volunteers has been a key part of her role. Her previous experience includes communications and marketing positions with organisations such as Bible Society, World Vision, homelessness and foodbank charities, and arts organisations.

Joy says: ‘I am delighted to be joining Torch Trust and am really looking forward to combining my skills, experience and faith to help make the Bible and Christian resources more accessible to people who are blind or partially sighted.’

Outside work, Joy enjoys exploring the Bible’s historical context, as well as tap dancing and Scottish country dancing. She and her husband, James, run a home group together and enjoy spending time with their two young granddaughters.

And, for those wondering if Dan joining our team will mean that James Brookman is parting ways with us – fear not! James will still very much be a part of the Torch team as our Trusts and Grants Coordinator. We know that James will be amazing in this role and we’re so excited for him to dive into it!
