TorchTalk is part of our telephone services, reaching and enabling people with sight loss to grow in confidence in God and in themselves is an important part of our new strategy for 2019. Our plan is to get feedback about our telephone services, talk to other organisations about what they do, devise an updated telephone service and then launch our service to new and existing clients. My hope is that this will mean that even more people with sight loss have the opportunity to take part in Torch services.
Telephone groups offer blind and partially sighted people the opportunity to share and fellowship with others from the comfort of their own armchair. For example, as part of a TorchTalk Group, a person in London could find themself chatting with folk in Scotland, Cornwall or Norfolk - in fact anywhere in the UK.
Each Group – usually between 6 to 10 people - seeks to reflect the interests of the people involved. For example, some might prefer a closer look at key Bible passages, others a lighter social Group, and others a Book Group or Prayer Group. Each TorchTalk Group runs either weekly or monthly for up to an hour, with a trained facilitator. Group membership is open to anyone with vision impairment, free of charge (donation appreciated).
Look out for the new service which will hopefully be launched by the middle of 2019
