The Torch Trust is a vibrant and growing Christian organisation that aims to enable people with sight loss to discover Christian faith and live fullfilling Christian lives. It provides Christian literature (in braille, giant print and audio media), fellowship and activities to visually impaired people in the UK and around the world.

Area Development Officer

As part of our National Strategy to reach out to churches, sight loss professionals, volunteers and clients.

We are particularly interested in Christians with experience of working with sight loss and/or any marketing or promotional skills. This position is generally 25 hours per week and would offer flexible opportunity to work from home or one of our remote bases.

To rise to this exciting challenge, you will be:

  • Creative, dynamic and able to use initiative.
  • A brilliant and enthusiastic communicator, able to inspire and engage a variety of different types of people.
  • Willing and able to travel around the region and occasionally other parts of the UK.
  • Available to work flexibly, including some non-standard hours.

There is an occupational Requirement that the post-holders are Christian. An enhanced DBS disclosure will be needed.

Communications Officer

To give attention to the “who”, “what” and “how” of our communications with an emphasis on reaching those we exist to serve.

Effectively communicate the mission of Torch, taking into account the Torch ethos through the writing, commissioning and coordinating of material in a variety of contexts and media in order to raise the profile, awareness, support and engagement with all that Torch offers.

This is a permanent full time salaried appointment based at Torch House, Market Harborough, Leicestershire.

To rise to this exciting challenge, you will have:

  • Proven experience relevant to leading a programme of this size and complexity.
  • Strong organisational, management and creative writing skills, including the ability to deliver quality messages within the constraints of budget and staffing.
  • The ability to form trusting, constructive relationships and represent Torch in an engaging and inspiring way.

Cook – Torch Holiday and Retreat Centre – Hurstpierpoint

Available for an immediate start

We are looking to appoint an experienced and enthusiastic cook with a proven track record to deliver the highest standards and fresh food to our Holiday Centre guests. Our centre provides holidays and support for people with sight loss and a large proportion are elderly.

An ability to show empathy with blind and disabled people is essential.

The role is a permanent position.

Hospitality Assistant - Torch Holiday and Retreat Centre – Hurstpierpoint

We are looking to appoint both temporary and permanent Hospitality Assistants to support the programmes and events at our Holiday & Retreat Centre. Our Centre provides holidays and support for people with sight loss. 

The benefits of working for the Torch Holiday and Retreat Centre are:-

  • Providing a high level of hospitality to people with sight loss
  • Gaining experience in working for a charity
  • Playing a key role within a very friendly and enthusiastic staff team

Specific tasks include:

  • General assistance in supporting blind guests on outings and around the house.
  • Assistance in the kitchen and with catering, waiting on guests at meal times etc.
  • General housekeeping duties.
