Torch Centre



The Torch Centre offers flexible and relaxing facilities for use by churches, Christian charities and individuals:

  • Away days
  • Conferences
  • Retreats
  • Alpha weekends
  • Leadership training
  • Worship events
  • Celebrations
  • Bed & breakfast (minimum group size 6 people)

There are many and varied possibilities for using the Torch Centre:

  • Residential
  • Day or evening bookings

 The Centre can accommodate:

  • Residential - 24 bed spaces (8 twin, 8 single)
  • Non-residential - 60 delegates for lounge bookings, 50 for chapel bookings.

The Centre is operated by Torch Trust, which exists to enable people with sight loss to discover Jesus and lead fulfilling Christian lives. When not in use for this purpose it is available for hire. For more information please call 01273 832282.

Centre Facilities

Torch HRC Dining Room TableGroups can have access to a wide range of facilities whether during a residential event, day conference, evening celebration or family booking:

  • Beautiful, flexible chapel meeting space - capacity 50 seated
  • Dining room / small lounge meeting spaces - for break out sessions and / or tea and coffee areas

For quiet retreats we especially highlight:

  • Peaceful and quiet garden area with two decking areas, overlooking the South Downs National Park
  • Chapel for reflection and prayer

  • All ensuite bathroom facilities
  • All rooms are accessible, including 3 fully DDA compliant ensuites, using a lift to the first floor.

The Centre is situated in peaceful surroundings at the end of a long drive. The experienced team of staff and volunteers will take care of your needs during your stay. Features include:

  • Direct access to the South Downs National Park from the Centre garden
  • Local walks of various lengths across open fields
  • Spacious, south facing decked sun terrace with outdoor furniture
  • Meals served in the south facing dining room, or in fine weather out on the terrace
  • Home-cooked food, hearty and plentiful and sourced from local producers

Be refreshed by the presence of God in this beautiful setting - for many it is a lasting memory of their stay.

The prices for use of the Centre vary according to the type and length of stay and catering requirements.

Day Delegates

Prices per person:

Booking from 9:00 - 17:00 includes: welcome tea, coffee and biscuits, midmorning tea, coffee and biscuits, two course light lunch, afternoon tea, coffee and cake. £26.

Booking from 9:00 to 19:00 includes: welcome tea, coffee and biscuits, midmorning tea, coffee and biscuits, two course light lunch, afternoon tea, coffee and cake, two course evening meal, tea and coffee. £42.

Additional meals:

How to Find Us


Hassocks railway station, which is on the main line between London (St Pancras International, London Bridge and Victoria) and Brighton, is only 3 miles from the Centre.


Hurstpierpoint is a small village situated about 9 miles north of Brighton. It can be accessed from London and the north via the M23/A23 and from the south, east and west via the M27/A27.


Gatwick airport is just 20 miles north of the Centre and can be reached via the M23/A23 or via the direct rail link from Hassocks.

Terms and Conditions

No pets allowed, except Assistance Dogs.

Minimum booking is for 6 people. For exclusive use of the Centre, the minimum booking is for 20

A non-refundable deposit of £10 per person per night for a residential stay is due at the time of booking and £5.00 per person for a day delegate.

The balance is payable in full 6 weeks before the start of the booking period. If booking within 6
weeks of date of arrival, then the full payment will be required at time of booking.

Check in from 15.00 on day of arrival and check out by 10 am (Late check out can be discussed with the Facilities Manager or Centre Booking Co-ordinator prior to arrival)

In the event of cancellation:
Within 6 weeks of the start of the booking period, 50% payment will be charged
Within 2 weeks of the start of the booking period, 100% payment will be charged
Please advise any changes in numbers or cancellation in writing

Torch Trust strongly recommends that you take out insurance to cover the risk of incurring
cancellation charges.

Groups are responsible for the full cost of any damages or breakages

Torch Trust recommends that you provide a First Aider for the duration of your stay, as a Torch
Trust qualified First Aider may not always be available on site.
