TorchTalk Groups

TorchTalk - Telephone Friendship Groups

TorchTalk is a free service which aims to bring people with sight loss together in fellowship. The groups provide Christian friendship, discussion, prayer, encouragement and fun via telephone conference calls. The groups are open to anyone with sight loss of all faiths or none.

How they work

Telephone groups offer blind and partially sighted people the opportunity to share and fellowship with others from the comfort of their own armchair. For example, as part of a TorchTalk Group, a person in London could find themself chatting with folk in Scotland, Cornwall or Norfolk - in fact anywhere in the UK.

Each Group – usually between 6 to 10 people - seeks to reflect the interests of the people involved. For example, some might prefer a closer look at key Bible passages, others a lighter social Group, and others a Book Group or Prayer Group. Each TorchTalk Group runs either weekly or monthly for up to an hour, with a trained facilitator. Group membership is open to anyone with vision impairment, free of charge (donation appreciated). Contact Jan Turner on Wednesday or Thursday mornings, or Client Services at any time, on 01858 438260 or for some information about either being a participant or a facilitator.

Torch Talk Groups

Torch Trust currently offers people with sight loss a wide range of TorchTalk Groups including short-term seasonal groups, women's and men's groups, and a monthly book group.

We will continually be starting new Groups both regular and seasonal ones. The seasonal Groups will often coincide with a Christian anniversary or dovetail with a seasonal theme of the year.

To register your interest or for more information please call a member of our Client Services Team on 01858 438260.
