TorchTalk Groups

TorchTalk - Telephone Friendship Groups

TorchTalk Groups aim to provide Christian friendship, support, encouragement and fun to people experiencing sight loss (especially those unable to easily access Christian and social activities) via Telephone Friendship Groups.

How they work

Telephone groups offer blind and partially sighted people the opportunity to share and fellowship with others from the comfort of their own armchair. For example, as part of a TorchTalk Group, a person in London could find themself chatting with folk in Scotland, Cornwall or Norfolk - in fact anywhere in the UK.

Each Group – usually between 6 to 10 people - seeks to reflect the interests of the people involved. For example, some might prefer a closer look at key Bible passages, others a lighter social Group, and others a Book Group. Each TorchTalk Group runs weekly or fortnightly for an average of 50 minutes, with a trained facilitator to oversee the smooth running. Group membership is open to anyone with vision impairment, free of charge (donation appreciated). Contact Carol Nokes on 01858 438260 or for some information about either being a participant or a facilitator.

Torch Talk Groups

Torch Trust currently offers people with sight loss a wide range of TorchTalk Groups including short-term seasonal groups, men's groups, a monthly book group and a number of offers.

We will continually be starting new Groups both regular and seasonal throughout the course of 2016. The seasonal Groups will often coincide with a Christian anniversary or dovetail with a seasonal theme of the year. Groups to be launched this year include a weekly Bible study group, monthly groups for Mums and Dads with sight loss with young children and one designed for people beginning to lose their sight.
