To provide Christian friendship, support, encouragement and fun to people experiencing sight loss (especially those unable to easily access Christian and social activities) via Telephone Friendship Groups.
Although we have an extensive network of Torch Fellowship Groups around the UK and overseas there are areas of the country where we have no Groups. Blind people also may experience great difficulty in visiting any social activities either because of location or mobility.
Hence our desire to offer blind and partially sighted people the opportunity via the telephone to share the Scriptures together, pray together and fellowship together - all from the comfort of their own armchair! For example, as part of a TorchTalk Group, a person in London could find themselves talking with folk in Scotland, Cornwall or Norfolk - in fact anywhere in the UK.
Each Group will seek to reflect the interests of the people involved so, for instance, some might prefer a closer look at key Bible passages whereas others a lighter social Group and others a Prayer Group. Each TorchTalk Group will run either weekly or fortnightly for an average of 50 minutes and a trained facilitator will act to oversee the smooth running of the Group. Anyone whether they have a Christian faith or not is welcome to participate and no charge is levied - although a donation would be greatly appreciated. Contact David Palmer for some information about either being a participant or a facilitator.
