Quietly situated in the Sussex village of Hurstpierpoint with
views of the South Downs, the Torch Holiday & Retreat Centre is the
ideal setting in which to refresh mind, body and spirit. Scenic
countryside walks start from the garden gate. The historic village
is full of character and has local shops. The seaside town of
Brighton is just nine miles away Torch holidays are centred in fellowship – being together – and each day there is some Christian spiritual content to the programme. The Centre is operated by the Torch Trust for the Blind which provides Christian literature, fellowship and personal support for blind and partially sighted people. Torch Holiday and Retreat Centre is managed by Gail Millar with a team of staff and volunteers. Gail lives on site with her three children Emma, Philip and Sarah. You can be assured of a very warm welcome. At the heart of the house is a large lounge with a grand piano. A loop system is fitted for the benefit of hearing aid users. The sun lounge which faces south leads to well-kept gardens where you can sit and relax. Attached to the house is a beautiful peaceful chapel which dates from early last century. This is available for private or corporate prayer and worship.
Delicious meals mean that you will never go hungry. Full board is provided including early morning tea brought to your room, breakfast, lunch, dinner, supper and all refreshments. Catering for special diets is possible by prior arrangement. Outings and activities are arranged during the spring and summer months to places of interest e.g. National Trust and other country gardens, animal farms and places of interest, the coast, and shopping centres. For the more agile there are other options: bowling, boat trips, abseiling, swimming and walking. The evening programme varies from theatre trips to games evenings, fellowship times to talent shows. Transport for outings is provided in our own mini-bus.
