REGIONAL

Commitment may be a word that is becoming unfashionable but not so with the Torch Group in central Glasgow which celebrated its 40th anniversary in September. Nessa Graham who joined their celebrations writes, "All the Scottish Groups were represented and there was plenty of chatter as people greeted each other and during lunch. We had a very special meeting where a lot of reminiscing was done making me feel very nostalgic as I attended the Group before coming to work at Torch. Praise the Lord for His faithfulness through the years to these lovely friends.

INTERNATIONAL

A 40 foot metal container that had been sitting in the Torch House car park for the past couple of weeks has just started its six week journey to Malawi. In it is all manner of goods ranging from furniture, mattresses, braille paper, clothing and specially adapted wheelchairs for crippled teenagers living in outlying villages. We thank God for all who have contributed either financially towards the cost of the container or donated items. Janet Stafford has done a fantastic job in meticulously packing and listing all the items into over 1,000 boxes! Please pray for its safe arrival.

LITERATURE

Lydia Tebbutt our Publications Leader writes: "Please pray for us as we begin to work on our Christmas choices which will include our freebie 'The Promise of Christmas' by Jeff Lucas. This will be available in braille, giant print and on Audio CD to order from 1st November."

TORCH HOUSE NEWS

This week at Torch House we bid farewell to Catriona Cumming our Volunteer Coordinator. Catriona has been exploring her sense of calling into ministry with the Church of England. That sense of calling has culminated in being selected for a three year training course in Cambridge. We will all greatly miss her! Patricia Douglas, who already works at Torch, takes over from Catriona.

EXHIBITION NEWS

No holiday news this month but plenty of exhibitions. Torch has been represented at local exhibitions in East Grinstead, Newcastle upon Tyne and Southampton. We have also been part of the annual conferences of the Macular Disease Society (in London) and Talking News Federation (in Peterborough) as well as exhibiting at Sight Village (in Manchester).
