Literature News

Insight on Premier has just produced a programme scheduled to go out on August 28th, about one of the Torch Library's favourite authors - Jennifer Rees-Larcombe. The programme features audio extracts from "Beauty from Ashes" read by Torch House volunteer Daphne Johnson, introduced and commented on by Marilyn Baker.

Torch House News

Torch House in Market Harborough was buzzing with conversations on Saturday 4th June, as we celebrated the wonderful contribution that volunteers make to the life and mission of Torch. Around 70 volunteers were served afternoon tea by members of Torch staff. Those present included Fellowship Group leaders, transcribers, Trustees, and holidays volunteers. Some had travelled from as far afield as Northern Ireland to be there. It was a very special time!

Holiday News

The Fit for Action holiday at THRC finished last week and everyone said how much they enjoyed their time and also had a real encounter with God. His touch was not only evident amongst the guests, but also with two Bible College students, Fred and Elsa, who arrived at the Centre offering their help. Praise God for all his goodness and provision!

Regional News

David Palmer & John Seager, Essex Regional Coordinator, had a Torch stand at an event in Dagenham on June 16th as part of National Eye Health Week. John reports: "We had some good responses. Several were interested in a Torch Group being started again in the area. We also had good interaction with those who manned the other stands and with the Council staff present, and have been invited back to their next event on October 13th, in Barking."

Neil Humphrey leader of the Kettering TFG hosted the Torch stand at the Northamptonshire Association for the Blind exhibition recently and made several new contacts.

International News

We receive many messages from our overseas readers. Here's a couple: "I have been benefiting a lot from your Bible messages you always send to me in the Braille magazines. I am a trained teacher in English and Christian religion and your materials help me so much."

Another says: "I have to thank your office for good teaching magazines that build me up spiritually. In my local church I have been appointed as an assistant pastor. This has come to be because of your encouraging teaching from your Torch magazine."

(Approx 8000 Torch magazines go overseas every two months.)
