Regional News

The longest serving Torch Fellowship Group? The Belfast Torch Fellowship Group celebrate this year an amazing 39 years since they opened! Dorothy, Desmond Callan, Jim, Rosemary Bradley, Joan Allen, and Mary McGookin were there at the beginning and continue still faithfully today. We thank God for each and send them our warmest congratulations!

Torch has had opportunities to attend different exhibitions recently, with many new contacts made, namely at the RNIB Low Vision Day at Peterborough, Christian Resources Exhibition Esher and the Suffolk Association for the Blind at Felixstowe.

International News

Three good pieces of news! We are pleased to announce that sufficient money has been donated to allow further purchase of braille embossers for the production team at Blantyre.

Stanley Moyo has been appointed the new administrator for Torch Malawi. Do pray for him as he takes up his new responsibilities.

Praise God that Janet Stafford's knee operation has been successful. She is at home recovering.

Literature

Scripture Union are offering an excellent mini series of Bible and prayer guides linked with a CD of favourite hymns on the themes of Hope, Faith and Peace. Each booklet costs £6.99 and can be ordered from your local Christian bookshop or by phoning SU Mail Order on 0845 0706006. Although written primarily for people with dementia the booklets contain some helpful ideas that could be adapted for Torch Groups. Free copies of 'Through it All' by Stella Heath available, while stocks last (print version only).

Torch House News

David and Marie Palmer's 13 year old son Simon badly broke his right leg on Good Friday and has been convalescing at home ever since. Following a visit to the Hospital this week the doctors are pleased with his progress and sent him off with a rigorous course of exercises to help rebuild his muscles!

Text message from Gail from the recent Wales houseparty "Just sat down for a coffee with guests at Barry Island at the Gavin and Stacey Cafe. A gentleman sat having an ice-cream came up and gave me money to buy everyone afternoon tea and cake. Got chatting about Torch and God and Church. Amazing. God is good".
